Williamsburg, and Brooklyn in general, has long been home to killer restaurants. My favorites are those that also have warm service and an overall cozy vibe—because who wants to be stared down for a table no matter how chic the setting? That's perhaps one of the best parts of Sunday in Brooklyn, my go-to lunch date place. Helmed by chef Jaime Young, the South Williamsburg restaurant is celebrating its 1-year birthday this Halloween. The Aussie-tinged menu is full of delights like avocado toast and scarily good malted pancakes.
My former neighbors, who owned Glasslands in Williamsburg, Brooklyn before, put together this incredible new music venue in Bushwick called Elsewhere and it's not to be missed. It's opening beginning of November with Bruno Major. If you haven't yet heard the London singer-songwriter's gorgeous vocals, be ready to be bowled over here.
Real estate in Brooklyn is only going up these days and that means artists and galleries are moving further and further out. When I'm stuck in a rut, one of my favorite ventures is to The Clearing gallery in Bushwick, and on a recent visit I was wowed by the work of British artist Eduardo Paolozzi. The colors and designs are pleasing, but also the riff of sci-fi was just the thing for this geek at heart.(Side note: I am completely enthralled by The Martian right now.)
